Geographic Information Systems Work

I got my start in Geographic Information Systems with a certificate program I completed at the University of Washington. I led a project to map avalanche paths at the Alpental Ski Area at Snoqualmie Pass, Wash. Our project digitized existing maps and allowed avalanche information to be recorded in a data table. Here’s the PowerPoint presentation we put together at the end.

Later on, I put together some slope analysis using LiDAR data, which has a very high resolution. This five-page PowerPoint presentation shows some of the things you can do with that kind of analysis. LiDAR has the added benefit of being able to show tree height.
