Peace Corps experience

I served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Ukraine from 2001 to 2003. I taught English as a foreign language at a secondary school in Dneprorudny, Ukraine, a small town in the Zaporozhye region of southeastern Ukraine. I taught a total of 200 students over the course of the two years, learned Russian to a conversational level, and I directed two secondary projects. The first of these projects was to restore a mineral-water springs park in the village of Terpennia, near the city of Melitopil. I got two grants from the Peace Corps to build a bath (pictured above) and to put in walkways, a bridge, stonework around the springs, a gate at the front of the park, toilets, and a few other amenities. The other secondary project was to introduce a civic-education curriculum at the school where I worked, and I got the Center for Civic Education in Calabasas, Calif., to send me a large shipment of textbooks for teaching civics at the school. The below picture is of me with the 9th-A class at the end of my service in 2003.
